Re: Recommend a Book
Anyone read any of the spot the dog series, top - big pictures, not many words, and it's all about the adventures of a little dog - what more could you want?
I still collect Mr Men books, great investment for future Robas to enjoy.
Last thing I read was American Gods by Neil Gaiman - about how some of the old unheard of Gods were taken to America by people from other countries thru their belief , but as newer generations don't believe in these Gods, they have little power. It's a great story - hard to explain.
I read the first Necroscope years and years ago, enjoyed it if I remember rightly, will have to find my copy and re-read.

Re: Recommend a Book
The Count of Monte Christo - Alexander Dumas
Hmmm really enjoying this book its a easier read then I expected though its over 1000 pages long.
Its about a young lad who has everything a man could want, he has a beautiful girlfriend who love each other, he is the captian of a ship and is adored by the owner of the boat, he has a loving family and is a real nice guy.
But with all this fortune jealousy creeps in with his friends and they concoct a horrible plan to gete him imprisoned.
A lot of misfortune hits Dante and he ends up in prison for years and years. He eventually meets a nutter priosner in his dungeon cell who declares that he is a very nobleman from Italy and knows were a vast fortune is hidden by his old master. After they become friends to cut a long story short he tells him where the treasure is.
Dante doesnt believe him but lvoes the old man dearly and one day not going into detail on how he escapes but dante escapes and travels to this location, Island of Monte Christo.
And well I'm pretty much at the point where he is on his adventures and spedning his gold and helping people and friends that do good as he sees.
I expect though revenge will be taken upon in the latter half on the friends that betrayed him.
But in all quite enjoying it, its like an adult adventure book.

Willco, cheers izorpo
Just finished reading another really long book, bit confusing to be honest, starts off with some bloke called Aardvark and ends up with him looking at some South American weevels called zyzzyvas.
Not much plot but loads of characters and places in it

Re: Recommend a Book
On the last 150 pages of "Count of Monte Christo".
Have to say really loved this book and easily one of the best fiction books Ive read in ages.
A real classic and totally recommend to all.
I find myself smirking quite a lot when reading as it has such dry humour.

Re: Recommend a Book
aye think its 1100 pages long.
feel like Ive read 2 books but saying that Im nearing the end and it feels like it is nowhere near finished. Think Im gonna be upset when finished. Which is always a sign of a good book.

Re: Recommend a Book
The Dresden Files: Storm Front - Jim Butcher
I love the way the book is written. Its how I wrote several things from my Play-by-Email days, and from Secondary school. Its the main character narrating his own life, including his thoughts and opinions - including a few comedy segments to lighten what would otherwise be a fairly dark book. In terms of plot, its quite interesting, a few people are gruesomely murdered, and Dresden is called in to find out who did it and how. Its also a nice way to introduce the characters involved and their mannerisms. Very different to the televised version, particularly Bob (A talking Skull in the book, a Ghost entrapped in a Skull in the TV program). Still, a really good read.

Gears of War -Jacinto's Remnant 8/10
Really liked this. Set after Gears of War 2, sets up a bit of what to expect in Gears 3. The Locust are on the run, Jacinto is destroyed, and the CoG have to find somewhere to rebuild civilisation... Its pretty good and written in the same style as the first one, with Flashbacks to when they originally deployed the Hammer of Dawn to try and kill the Locusts... Worth a read if you're a Gears fan, and still a good book if you aren't - although to be honest if you've never played the games before you'll probably have no idea what going on...

Re: Recommend a Book
I read the Curious Case of Benjamin Button the other day. Very short story and ended quite abruptly. Was more of an anecdote really. Not seen the film. It's worth a read anyway, just 'cause it's so short.
