Re: best films you'll ever see
Alien/Aliens - I would personally add the directors cut of Alien 3, but some people would hate me
V for Vendetta
Sin City
The original Omen trilogy
Pulp Fiction
Poltergeist
Evil Dead
The Thing
Pay it Forward
The Last Samurai
Saving Private Ryan (if only for the opening)
Flags of our Fathers/Letters From Iwo Jima - try to watch in that order together.
Got to get ready for work so will fire off more later

How could I forget Usual Suspects and L.A Confidential?
Though there are plenty of other films I would recommend that I have not put down. Just far too many to list

Heat, the classic remake of L.A. take down
if we're talking spoofs then top secret is a giggle
interview with the vampire
the hitcher(original) is a classic
the bourne trilogy
Alien qaudrilogy is ace
and of course Shaun of the dead is bonzer!
oh just recently Defiance, the dark knight, the kingdom and the two new bonds are well worth a peep guys and girlies.

Brick and A Scanner Darkly probably haven't been mentioned but are two of the best films I've seen in a long while.

I didn't get on with A Scanner Darkly... It didn't seem right, in my eyes.
Monty Python: Life of Brian and Holy Grail are both excellent films too.

Read the Phillip K. Dick book eh? having said that none of his books ever really transfer well to film - the one exception being Blade Runner (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?)
I highly recommend The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things - This is probably the most disturbing film I have ever seen - only need to see it once - harsh brutal and by the half way point you'll wish it was over - it's not a horror film - it's not a bad film it is extremely uncomfortable viewing - like being repeatedly kicked in the stomach
I mostly prefer Japanese films or cult or "b" movies but here are some oddments in no particular order
1. Straight to Hell
2. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me
3. Highway 61
4. Repo Man
5. Taxidermia
6. Dr. Caligari
7. Ladies and Gentlemen The Fabulous Stains
8. Desperate Living
9. Stacy: Attack of the School Girl Zombies
10. Bubba Hotep
11. Liquid Sky
12. Cafe Flesh
13. The New Barbarians
14. 2000 Maniacs (Herschell Gordon Lewis)
15. The Watermelon Man
16. Naked
17. A Dirty Shame
18. Bloodsucking Freaks
19. Roadside Prophets
20. Johnny Suede
